Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains how the Martha’s Vineyard Safety Association (doing business as “Tick Free MV”) (“Tick Free MV,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and safeguards information when you use websites, pages, or online services that link to this Policy (the “Site”).By using the Site, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. We may update this Policy at any time; changes take effect when posted.

1) Information We Collect

a) Information you provide directly.

  • Contact details (name, email, phone), organization/affiliation, and message content submitted via forms or email.
  • Donation-related information (amount, designation, mailing address, and any notes you provide). Payment card/ACH details are processed by our third-party processors; we do not store full payment credentials on our servers.
  • Event, partnership, or volunteer sign-ups (names, roles, availability, parcel/land info for access, etc.).

b) Information collected automatically.

  • Device and usage data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps, referring pages).
  • Cookies and similar technologies that help us operate the Site, measure traffic, and improve content. You can manage cookies via your browser preferences.

c) Information from third parties.

  • Basic contact or relationship information from referral partners or publicly available sources (e.g., organizational directories) to support legitimate outreach about collaboration opportunities.

We ask that you only submit information about yourself. If you submit another person’s data, you confirm you have their consent.

2) How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Respond to inquiries, partnership requests, media requests, and donor questions.
  • Operate and improve the Site (analytics, troubleshooting, security).
  • Communicate about our mission, programs, events, and opportunities to participate or donate (you can unsubscribe at any time).
  • Process and acknowledge donations, provide receipts, and maintain donor records.
  • Comply with law, enforce our Terms of Use, protect our rights, safety, donors, partners, and users, and prevent fraud or misuse.

3) When We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with:

  • Service providers/operational partners who help us run the Site, process donations, send email, store data, provide analytics, or support programs (bound by confidentiality/processing terms).
  • Successors/assignees as part of a reorganization or transfer of program assets.
  • Government or legal authorities when required by law or to protect our rights, donors, users, or the public. 

We do not share personal information with unaffiliated third parties for their own marketing.

4) Your Choices

  • Email. You may opt out of non-transactional emails at any time via unsubscribe links or by contacting us.
  • Cookies/analytics. You can set your browser to refuse or delete cookies; some Site features may not function without them.
  • Access/updates. To review, correct, or delete information you previously provided, contact us at privacy@safetymv.org (see “Contact Us”).

5) Donor Privacy

We value donor privacy. We keep donor records as required for acknowledgments, accounting, and audit. We may publicly recognize donors by name/level unless you request anonymity. Donation processing is handled by reputable third-party processors; please review their terms and privacy policies at the point of payment.

Tax-status notice: The Martha’s Vineyard Safety Association is a nonprofit corporation organized in Massachusetts and has applied to the Internal Revenue Service for recognition as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3). Upon IRS approval, tax-exempt status will be effective as of September 2, 2025. Contributions made while our application is pending will be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law once our exemption is granted. If, for any reason, our exemption is not granted, contributions may not be deductible.

6) Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information, please contact us and we will delete it. 

7) Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to help protect information. No website or email system is 100% secure; please do not send sensitive information you would not want to be public. 

8) Third-Party Links

Our Site may link to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for their content, security, or privacy practices. Review their policies before providing information. 

9) International Users

We operate in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the U.S., you understand that your information may be processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. 

10) Retention

We retain information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Policy (e.g., donor records for accounting/audit), comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

11) California/State Notices (where applicable)

Depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights under state law regarding access, deletion, or portability of personal information. If you are a California resident and wish to exercise privacy rights available under California law (where applicable), please contact privacy@safetymv.org. We will verify and respond to requests as the law requires.

12) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date shows when it was most recently revised. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the updated Policy
